DOUBLE success has been enjoyed by Troon Handball Club Under-14s in what has been a dream season.

The South Ayrshire club have just ended the campaign undefeated after producing a host of top drawer performances against the best teams in the country.

They took on major rivals Kelvinside in a fiercely contested Scottish Cup final in the Oriam at Heriot Watt University.

And the game turned into a classic, which you couldn’t take your eyes off.

With three games left, the match was deadlocked at 12-12, however Troon then took control and won 15-12 in what was a pulsating finish.

And it truly was sweet revenge for the local team, who had lost last year’s final to the same opponents and had been determined to make amends this time around.

This success came on top of their recent Scottish League triumph as they pipped Kelvinside by six points to the national title and ensuring they had double cause to celebrate, Jubilant coach Chris Kerr, who has been working with the players since they were in P5, is delighted with their successes and feels they are very well deserved - a reward for their dedication to the sport.

He said: “The key to the success really is hard work and they really enjoy playing the sport, I know all the boys well and it was great to win the top two events.

“Our goalie Hamish Quinn had an excellent game in the final and made some great stops but everyone played well. You could say it was a real team effort.”

The team would like to thank their sponsors, O’Neil Gas for their backing throughout the campaign.

Making up the Troon Handball Club Under-14s team are: Hamish Quinn, Ewan McMurtrie, Blake McDowall, Jamie Wilson, Dean Neilson, Lewis Martin, Aiden Doak and Fin Dunn.
