ECO-conscious people from across the community are being invited to head along to a film event with a difference later this month.

Troon's first free Eco-Film Festival is being held in Portland Parish Church Hall on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17.

Organisers have a fantastic programme of award-winning, beautifully shot and engaging films exploring a range of environmental topics, plus a range of fun and family-friendly activities.

This year’s theme deals with the issues of plastic in our seas, the threat of climate change and what we can do to help.

Charles Russell, one of the organisers, said: "The importance of awareness about plastics in our seas has been well highlighted recently and the festival tackles this, as well as the very real impacts of climate change. It's also an event for all the family and we look forward to welcoming everyone to a fun and informative event."

On the menu is a diverse list of international feature films including:

*Before the Flood – actor Leonardo Di Caprio meets scientists and world leaders to discuss the dangers of climate change and possible solutions;

*A Plastic Ocean - about the devastating impact of plastic on marine life and how plastic enters the food chain and is ultimately consumed by us

* An Inconvenient Sequel – Former Vice-President Al Gore’s continuing mission to battle climate change

*Albatross – a beautiful film showing the devastating impact of plastic pollution on the Albatross population

There will be daytime and evening viewings with talks, eats and treats.

The festival is free and open to all and also includes several short films and children’s films, such as Happy Feet, The Lorax and A Turtles Tale as well as a scavenger hunt/scrapheap challenge, story-telling, nature-based arts and crafts and face painting.

Families, children and people of all ages and abilities are welcome!
