TROON Lifeboat was launched to a yacht with machinery failure outside the entrance to Troon Harbour.

On Wednesday, June 6 at around 6.30pm, the crew of the Troon Inshore Lifeboat were paged after reports of a 34ft yacht, with one person on board, that had suffered from machinery failed.

A passing vessel had initially assisted but were unable to tow them.

A spokesman for Troon Lifeboat, said: “The crew attended at the lifeboat station and with the shore crew quickly launched the D class inshore lifeboat ‘Sheena’.

“The inshore lifeboat was soon alongside the casualty vessel just outside the harbour and the crew set up a tow.

“Just after 7pm, following a short tow, the casualty vessel was berthed alongside in Troon marina with the assistance of Ayr Coastguard Rescue Team.

“The inshore lifeboat then returned to station where it was recovered and made ‘ready for service’ with assistance of the shore crew.”

Troon Lifeboat crew also assisted on Monday, June 4 after a 999 call was received from a yacht advising that they had located three adults drifting in an inflatable dingy.

The crew made their way towards the yachts position as the yacht towed the dinghy to Ardrossan Harbour.

Whilst the lifeboat was on route, the yacht entered Ardrossan Harbour where it was met by the Ardrossan Coastguard Rescue Team who were able to attend to the casualties.

They were then passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service for further treatment.
