LOCALS far and wide travelled to Dundonald Castle for its annual Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

The event – part of Dundonald Highland Games Week – was held on Sunday, August 5, which saw over 100 families take part in the day’s picnic.

A spokeswoman for Dundonald Castle, said: “We had several hundred people with families come along – it was very successful, and the children took part in various activities throughout the day. We were selling little teddy bear picnic boxes for the children.

“It was a free event for families and we have it every year – it is always busy, and you get to go and visit inside the castle. It also coincides with the Dundonald Highland Games.”

Along with the Teddy Bear’s Picnic on the run up to the games, other activities running through this week include, a treasure hunt, a 10K road race, a pet show and a seven-a-side football competition.

Dundonald Highland Games will be taking place this Saturday within Dundonald Castle – it will see entertainment and activities including a traditional highland games with pipe band contest, drum majors, solo piping, highland dancing, battle re-enactment, heavy events, side stalls, massed pipe bands display and street parades. The street procession will start at noon.
