COURTING success in the summer holidays were youngsters from across the Troon community, writes Stewart McConnell.

Marr College hosted a badminton session for children in the P1 to P4 age range.

The session was run by Active Schools at Marr College to provide an introduction to the popular sport for local youngsters.

Participating children worked on developing new skills and took part in fun mini games throughout the day. All children had a fantastic time with many expressing an interest in taking up the Olympic sport on a regular basis.

Expert coaching was laid on and those who enjoyed taking part may use it as a stepping stone to further develop their skills in the top racquet sport.

A whole host of sports activities have been run by Active Schools throughout the summer holidays.

Those included girls football at Ayr Academy, netball, which was held at Prestwick Academy, a sports camp with a varied range of activities at Marr College and dance at Ayr Academy.

Active Schools are heavily involved in running a wide range of events right through the school year and everyone can get involved.

They are aimed at keeping people active and give them an introduction to different sports, with many going on to become involved in groups or clubs for the sport across the area.
