Maybole swimming pool is set to re-open next week, just two months on from its closure.

After serving the community for nearly five decades, the pool closed its doors at the beginning of the year.

It had been a cherished part of the community, providing a 25-metre, four-lane pool and changing rooms.

A new pool, within Maybole Community Campus, opened following the closure of the old pool.

The former council-operated swimming pool in Maybole is now set to reopen on Monday, February 19, 2024.

During the first week, the pool will only be available for Carrick and Girvan primary school swimming lessons.

However, from Monday, February 26 the pool will also be open to Quay Zone members on:

  • Mondays 8am - 8:30pm
  • Wednesdays 8am - 7.30pm
  • Fridays 8am - 6:00pm and
  • Saturdays 8am - 12.45pm

The announcement comes as South Ayrshire Council continues to support South Carrick Community Leisure (SCCL) to find alternative provision following storm damage to the roof of the Quay Zone.

The old swimming pool off Kirkoswald Rd was closed earlier this year when a new pool opened as part of Maybole Community Campus.

While Maybole pool will mainly be used for lessons, SCCL also plan to provide lane swimming, aquafit classes and some fun float sessions for their members.

Allan Rattray, Chairperson of South Carrick Community Leisure said: "I am delighted at the cooperation given by South Ayrshire Council to address the storm damage to The Quay Zone.

"The opening of Maybole Pool for members of The Quay Zone just four weeks after the closure of the Girvan facility demonstrates a remarkable degree of cooperation and work on behalf of both the Council and SCCL and I commend everyone involved for all their hard work and commitment."

Councillor Brian Connolly, Sport and Leisure Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council added: "From the outset, we have been working closely with SCCL to find alternatives so that members of the Quay Zone don't miss out.

"I am delighted with the handover of the pool, and I am hopeful we will soon have a suitable venue in Girvan for their gym and class programme."
