Pioneering tests of Ayr sufferers

A GROUP of Ayr residents are taking part in a £1million drugs trial to compare two medicines for severe arthritis sufferers.

Several rheumatoid arthritis patients have joined the ORBIT clinical trial at hospitals around Scotland, including Ayr Hospital.

It will be the very first time a trial like this has taken place and is funded by a £1million grant from medical research charity Arthritis Research UK.

The charity believes it had to fund the trail due to pharmaceutical companies being unwilling to submit their drugs directly against their competitor.
