A CALLOUS crook who stole his mother’s central heating system and mugged an 83-year-old invalid in his own home has been jailed for over 30 months.

Darron Higgins’ mother was horrified when she returned to her home in Ayr from a winter break in America to find that her central heating boiler and copper piping had been ripped out.

She challenged her 32-year-old son about it and he told her the pipes had burst.

Mrs Higgins didn’t believe him and when pressed Higgins admitted the theft.
