PLANS for a Maybole Bypass took another step forward this week as First Minister Alex Salmond announced work was starting.

At the opening of Stena Line's new Loch Ryan ferry terminal, on Friday, November 25, the First Minister said: "For the Maybole Bypass, we now will start work on obtaining the necessary statutory permissions and draft orders."

Peter Mason, chair of Maybole Bypass Committee, said: "It's fantastic news. It's taking little steps and little steps, and this is just another little step forward."
