SOUTH Ayrshire Council will be asked to vote on a motion this week to make council functions alcohol free.

On Thursday, March 8, SNP group leader and Troon Councillor Nan McFarlane will present a motion to a full meeting of SAC: "that this Council agrees that Civic Receptions and Council events should be alcohol free with tasty, healthy, alternative drinks offered and that except for private lets, alcohol should not be served in council premises. Neither will any Council employee who holds a personal licence apply for an occasional license for a Council function that would be held in any premises."
