Ayrshire Hillbillies hands over cash

There is a host of events for you to discover this week.

Today (Tuesday, March 23) get the kids involved with the Bookstart Rhymetime in the Carnegie Library. It will run at 10.30am every Tuesday until March 30. Parents and toddlers can go and join in the fun story, song and rhyme session. Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes and is suitable for two to four year olds. Younger brothers and sisters are welcome. For more details contact the library at 12 Main Street in Ayr or visit http://library.south-ayrshire.gov.uk.

The following day (Wednesday, March 24) Troon Arthritis Group meet at 2pm in the Pentland Hall of St Meddan's Church, Troon. The meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month, same time and place and new members are welcome. The Troon Arthritis Group is committed to provide for the needs of all people suffering from arthritis, or having an interest in the well-being of such suffers in the Troon area. That same day Breast Cancer Care Information Session will be in Ayr today. The first free session will focus on Healthy Eating and Exercise after treatment for those living with and beyond breast cancer. The event will take place in Ayr between 10am and 3pm. Or why not pop along to the Ladies keep-fit classes from 9.15am to 10.15am in Troon Youth Centre. Leader Eleanor Rafferty welcomes new members.

That evening Ayr Burns Club are hosting "Burns Leaving Scotland" by Andrew Gourley. The night will allow your to learn more from Those Letters of Robert Burns. A warm welcome will be given to everyone who joins them for fun, fellowship and friendship, at Loudon Hall, Boat Vennel at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

The next day (Thursday, March 25) the Ayr Community Gospel Choir rehearsal takes place tonight with new members welcome. Following on from the success of the group's very successful Salvation Army's Christmas Concert they are calling all singers from 14 upwards (no limit) to do it all again - this time for a Summer Concert on Sunday, June 13. There will be six rehearsals to be held during March, April and May. Practise takes place in Riverside Evangelical Church Hall, John Street in Ayr from 7.30pm until 9pm. Or why not take the kids along to the fourth week of the Bookstart Baby Rhymetime starts at the Carnegie Library today. At 10.30am every Thursday, until April 1, you can bring your baby along and enjoy the tickles, bounces and rhymes. Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes and is suitable from birth to 18 months/two years. That evening a Reiki Share Group takes place every Thursday in Barr Community Centre from 6.30pm by Tsering Chobron. Everybody is welcome and Tsering is offering free attenuants to people living in and around Barr as an offer to the community. Thursday also sees the next session of a Troon class which aims to promote independence by improving strength, balance and stamina. Class Diamonds begins with half an hour of gentle exercise specifically designed for the over 60's, on a chair progressing each week. This is followed by activities, for example indoor curling, skittles, badminton, short tennis and more. Tea and coffee will be served, followed by a talk from a health professional for example a physio, pharmacist, dietician, occupational therapist, optician, and a community nurse. And it's all absolutely free. The class begins today from 1.30pm to 3.30pm for a 12 week block in Muirhead Community Centre.

That night the Ayr Arts Guild welcomes a Brass Quintet from Glasgow for an evening of Brass Music through the Ages. There will be pieces by Gabrieli, Purcell, Bach, Mozart, Gershwin and Horowitz. The venue is Ayr's Holy Trinity Church in Fullarton Street, renowned for its good acoustics for brass instruments. It starts at 7.30pm with tickets at £6 (concessions £5) available at the door.

On Friday, March 26, all are welcome to enjoy a coffee morning with the Belhaven Nursing Home residents. The event will run from 10.30am to 12noon at the 3 Craigend Road home in Troon. There will be tea, coffee, homebaking, a raffle and craft stall.

That same day the Annual General Meeting of Alloway Burns Club takes place at the Education Pavilion at Burns Cottage from 7.30pm. Tea and biscuits along with a chance to chat, will be available after the meeting.

If you want a swinging night out to music from the 50s, 60s and 70s then head along to That'll Be The Day will be at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr from 7.30pm. It will be a fully costumed, fast moving show full of song dance and laughter. For more details contact Amanda Nash on 01292 294729 or email amanda.nash@south-ayrshire.gov.uk. Tickets for the night cost £20.

HILLBILLIES GOOD HELP:

BIG hearted bikers have been helping their neighbours by raising £200 to help with a young girls hair replacement.

Members of the local motorcycle club, the Ayrshire Hillbillies, made the donation to the Novantae MCC from Kirkconnel to help Louise Steel.

Louise suffered hair loss due to medical treatment and money is being raised to help replace her hair.

Pictured is Louise with her sister and parents receiving a cheque from founding member and past president Kenny McColm. Kenny and his wife Diane had been attending a Novantae function when they heard about Louise and offered to get the Hillbillies to help, resulting in a donation of £200.
