A FORMER Marr College pupil has been welcomed back to his school several years after he was banned from returning.
Education Secretary Mike Russell visited the Troon high school on Friday afternoon.
Mr Russell was invited to Marr after revealing to the Scottish Parliament that South Ayrshire Council had banned him from the school after he wrote several critical articles about the secondary.
He said: "Being back in Marr College as the Education Secretary, rather than as a pupil, is fascinating. Many things have changed since I did all my secondary education here, leaving at the end of my sixth year in June 1970 - almost 40 years ago.
"It's intriguing to see how the school has developed but also to see what has stayed the same, particularly as my father was in the very first intake to this school in 1935."
