Ayr doctor's invention in top innovator list

AN Ayr doctor has been named one of the top 10 health innovators after creating a clip that stops nosebleeds.
Doctor Akuafo Agbenyega designed the RhinoPinch, a plastic nasal clip which has now been made it into the NHS Supply Chain's top 10 innovations of 2009.
The clip applies pressure to the bridge of the nose - a job previously done by hand - which means that staff can attend to other patients, freeing up time and resources.
Dr Agbenyega, who works at Ayr Hospital, said: "For the device to be in the top 10 innovations is the icing on the cake for me. My wish is for the RhinoPinch to be available in homes in first aid kits everywhere and for it to be readily available for the elderly who sometimes have to go through a lot to get to hospital for a simple nose bleed."
