A MEMORIAL plaque has been unveiled at Girvan Station to mark the 150th anniversary of the railway reaching the town.

The commemorative sign was official revealed yesterday (Monday) by South Ayrshire Provost Winifred Sloan.

It marks 150 years since trains reached Girvan from Maybole.

The celebrations were organised by the Stranraer to Ayr Line Support Association (SAYLSA) and included schoolchildren from Girvan Primary entertaining guests with music and dance performances.
