'Boastful' message written by death driver read out in court

THE families of two mineworkers killed by a giant dump truck sat horrified in court as a boastful message from the death driver's Bebo site was read out.

Dad-of-three Colin Ferguson, 37, of Prestwick, and father-of-six Brian French, 48, of Kelloholm, were in a Land Rover at Pennyvenie Open Cast site near Dalmellington when it was run over by a 100 Terex truck being driven by Alan Shannon on February 26, 2007.

A Fatal Accident Inquiry at Ayr Sheriff Court heard that shortly after the tragedy Shannon, 28, of Dalmelllington posted what the bereaved families described as a "disgusting" message on the social networking site beside a picture of a Terex truck.

The message reads: "Its no funny its MURDER ah don't know how to work this thing am jist takin each day as it comes am on suspension an gettin' paid yipee so unlike u al be up some time the morn ha ha but daein fine goin back 2 pub for the fitba tomorrow so another late nite beckons an so does another sair heid."
