A DAD-to-be was nearly four times over the limit when he drove 80 miles to see his newly-pregnant girlfriend in the early afternoon.

At Ayr Sheriff Court on Friday, Richard Milne, 26, admitted driving on September 19 with a breath count of 123mg - the legal limit is 35mg.

Two police motor cyclists stopped Milne when they saw his car veering from lane to lane as he approached the busy Whitletts Roundabout on Ayr bypass at 12.45pm.

Solicitor Tony Currie said that his girlfriend - who stays in Ayr- had only told him the day before that she was pregnant.

Milne, of Ferry Road in Edinburgh, went out that night to celebrate with friends.
