Kids and youngsters 'are suffering' from living in poverty

OVER a third of children living in Ayr North are raised in poverty a shocking new report revealed this week.

Published by the Campaign to End Child Poverty this week the figures claim that a massive 35 per cent of children in the Ayr North council ward are living in poverty, the ward includes the communities of Dalmilling, Whitletts, Braehead, Lochside, Newton, Craigie and Heathfield.

The group published figures for every council ward, council and Westminster constituency in Scotland, with South Ayrshire seeing 19 per cent of its children living in poverty.

Ayr North Labour Councillor Ian Cavana said: "I knew the figures would be high but I was expecting about 30 per cent. That is terrible, more than one in three living in poverty. It's horrendous, it's so despicable that we don't spend enough time or money in Ayr North, although we do spend a lot there."
