WITH Halloween fast approaching, children on trick or treat missions and people on the lookout for witches, a Troon dog shop are making sure our four-legged friends will not miss out.

And baking in general is all the rage at the Pooch Pantry, with birthdays also a big deal.

Three Halloween-themed black pudding flavoured biscuits are currently on sale featuring witches' hats, bats and a ghost design in the run up to next Tuesday, October 31,

And cakes are made throughout the year to allow owners to celebrate their pooch's big day.

Shop owner Marion McLean said: "I close on a Wednesday to do doggy baking and have since we opened five years ago. We are Pet Plan approved and don't use any oil or fats in the biscuits. I also make haggis treats. You don't use sugars or sweeteners, which can be poisonous to dogs.

"The birthday cakes are very light and a mouthful of nothing - just egg and flour with a bit of decoration. We ice the cakes with doggy friendly icing and make the dog's name and age out of the biscuits on top of the cake.

"The cake is more like a birthday gateau. I try and make the cakes kind to the animals and human grade ingredients. We get a good demand for cakes and biscuits and I enjoy baking. The dogs normally eat the cake and seem to like it.

"We also take out fresh-baked treats to the likes of Dumfries House and Culzean Castle."
