THE head of a nursing union has called for disruptive patients to be treated by casualty surgeons in police stations.

Irenee O'Neil , General Secretary of the Independent Federation of Nursing in Scotland, has also urged health boards to pay for a permanent police presence in hospital A&E units.

Mrs O'Neil's comments came after three men were jailed for over a year at Ayr Sheriff Court for seperate charges of terrorising medical staff.
