A MAN died on Sunday morning as fire swept through Welbeck House, Troon.

Just after midnight on Saturday both Troon fire engines rushed to Bentinck Drive to tackle a fire with reports of two people trapped inside.

Eight firefighters entered the building, four searching each floor, before one team found a man and took him outside where paramedics and firefighters tried to resuscitate him, but sadly he was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was later named as 49-year-old Thomas Mill, with police revealing that relatives are aware and their enquiries are ongoing into the cause of the fire, although there appear to be no suspicious circumstances.
