TWO South Ayrshire rugby teams are going for glory at Murrayfield later this month.

Carrick Rugby Club play Highland in the BT Shield final while Millbrae, the Ayr 3rd XV take on Aberdeenshire in the BT Shield final on Saturday, April 16.

Both won their home semi-finals on Saturday, Carrick defeating the mighty St Boswells 19-13 and Millbrae overcoming Grangemouth Stags 14-3.

Jubllant Carrick head coach Gordon Brown said: "The boys were outstanding as St Boswells haven't lost in 59 games and won this competition last season. For them to come to Maybole and lose that record is not only a credit to the boys but to the committee who managed to get the field playable when it was very doubtful this morning. reach Murrayfield is always special but for me personally to reach it with a bunch of boys, many of whom I have taught since they were 12 is an unbelievable experience. We now will focus on getting the team ready for that final and also getting the biggest support that the people of Maybole and Carrick have ever seen."

The Millbrae team featured former skipper Jim Lymburn and ex-Rangers player Nigel Howard as well as young players Ben Paterson and Josh Currie.

The Ayr 1st XV lost to Melrose in the BT Cup semi-final and will now face the same side in the BT Premiership semi-final at Millbrae on Saturday.
