GORDON Burns was disappointed as his Troon side slipped to another away defeat with a 2-1 loss against basement boys Largs Thistle at Barrfields Park writes Stephen Bark.

Thistle won their second game on the bounce thanks to goals from James Marks and Kevin Struthers before Ross Robertson’s consolation at full time.

Troon remain in sixth in the Super Premier Division but have played more games than most of the teams around them.

The Troon gaffer knows his side urgently need to address their away day hoodoo.

Burns told Sportscene: “Another away game and it’s another defeat. Our away form is letting us down. We basically gave Largs a two goal head start and the goals we gave away were poor goals to lose.

“When you give a team a two goal head start away from home, it’s a big ask to comeback from that.

“In the first half we were poor but in the second half I thought we were a bit better. We got a goal in stoppage time but by that point it’s too late.

“Yet again it’s a poor performance away from home. We haven’t won two games in a row in the league this season. It seems to go win, lose, win, lose and it’s starting to hurt us.”

Largs’ Gary Fleming and Troon’s Colin Spence were sent off after an altercation towards the end of the first half but Burns felt his player was a bit unlucky.

He said: “To be honest I thought it was harsh on Colin. It is impossible to jump with your arms by your side and his elbow or arm makes contact.

“I feel a bit sorry for him because that’s a three game ban for him now. To lose a player of his experience and ability is a big blow.”
