AYR United captain Nicky Devlin wants his team to see off League One side Brechin City at the first attempt writes Stephen Bark.

The two sides attempt to go head-to-head again tonight (Tuesday) after the tie was called off due to a frozen pitch at Glebe Park on Saturday morning.
It was just one of NINE Scottish Cup matches that were postponed this weekend after freezing temperatures during the week.

And Devlin doesn’t want his sides’ fixtures to pile up over the winter.
He said: “We’re looking forward to it and hopefully we can get the win there and then.

“We really don’t need extra midweek games building up during the season. Hopefully we can just get the job done there and then.”

The Honest Men don’t have the best of records at Glebe Park in recent years having won just once in their last nine matches there. However, Brechin have lost back-to-back home games against Livingston and Alloa after losing just once in 14 home games.

Devlin knows how tough a task it will be for United.

He said: “We know it’s going to be a difficult match. They are sitting near the top of that league just now so we know how hard it’s going to be.

“We know it’s going to be difficult but it’s a competition that we want to progress in.

“There’s a few ex-players that will add to the game as well. I know Ross Caldwell and obviously Alan Trouten is there as well so that’ll add something.”

Devlin felt the travelling support in Kirkcaldy helped them secure a crucial away point against Raith Rovers last Tuesday and he knows that they can make the difference in Angus.

The captain added: “The supporters were different class. Seeing them all together in that wee corner was brilliant.

“For so many of them to come through, and it’s not as if it’s the best conditions through to Fife with the traffic, it’s brilliant to see.

“They’ve been brilliant since I’ve been here. They’ve been different class so hopefully we’ll take some good numbers through to Brechin.”
