GLASGOW 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Paul Foster got his Australian Open campaign off to a flying start at the weekend.

The Troon man won his opening three matches, defeating local state player Mike Tull 21-17 and came from 16-11 down to defeat Kiwi Steve Lilley 21-17, before racking up a 21-6 success against Moorooka's Kobe Barnton.

The event is being played at Broadbeach in the Gold Coast, venue for next year's Commonwealth Games.

Meanwhile, reigning World Indoor champion Foster was also last week appointed manager of the Scotland Under-25 Men's team.
