AYR Racecourse stages its second Listed race of the 2017 Flat season on Saturday and a race that is traditionally the fastest run at the track – The British Stallion Studs EBF Land O’Burns Fillies’ Stakes.

Last year’s winner was Marsha, who has since won the Group 1 Prix de l’Abbaye at Chantilly last October and gave weight all round to win the Group 3 Palace House Stakes at Newmarket earlier in the year.

There will no doubt be some talented fillies lining up for the five-furlong dash at Ayr on Saturday on a day that has £140,000 in prize-money.

Chief supporting race on the card is the Champion Handicap for the Johnstone Rosebowl which is run over a mile and is the target for Sophie P, trained by Mike Smith at Galston, who was recently runner up to Nezwaah in the Listed Rothesay Stakes at Ayr last month.

Ayr also races on Friday night which is Tennent’s Racenight with the six-race card due off at 6.30pm with the Tennent’s Black T Amateur Riders Handicap over one mile two furlongs and Galston trainer Mike Smith has engaged the services of top amateur Carol Bartley to ride Haymarket in this, while Jim Goldie saddles recent course winner Rioja Day, the mount of Rosie Hill.

The evening’s feature is the six furlong Tennent’s Handicap over six furlongs at 8.10pm and leading Newmarket trainer Roger Varian send Atletico on the long journey north. This five-year-old has won once from six starts but never has been out of the top three.
