FORM teams Ayr and Prestwick are playing down their title chances, despite leading the way in the Western Premier Division.

Prestwick moved up to top spot following victory away to struggling Kelburne on Saturday, however Ayr, who won decisively at Dumfries to chalk up a fifth straight victory, are just 0.38 per cent behind them in what is a very tight league.

Only six per cent separate the top four, with Ayr facing fourth-placed Ferguslie in Paisley on Saturday and their local rivals heading to Dumfries.

Prestwick skipper Shazad Rafiq said: "That was a good win for us and team spirit is great, but there's no talk of the title. Ayr are favourites to win the league, they are going very well and have a professional. They must be favourites.

"We will take it a game at a time and aim to win at Dumfries but it will be tough as they are a good side."

Ayr captain Andi McElnea is equally cautious and said: "There's no doubt we are on a great run, winning five games in a row. Once again our pro Michael Papps and Neil Smith played really well on Saturday and Shajaa Khan is in fine form. We are doing well but our next five games will be absolutely crucial. After the Ferguslie game, we play Uddingston at home, Poloc away and Greenock and Prestwick at home. If we can win four out of those five games maybe then we can talk about the title."
