Ardagh Glass League Cup

GIRVAN 5

CRAIGMARK BURNTONIANS 0

FIVE-star Girvan won the section in style as they swept aside 'Mark at Hamilton Park.

Paul Cameron was the star of the show with a double against the visiting side, who ended the game with 10 men.

Home boss Peter Leonard said: "It was a good victory, Craigmark have been playing well. We wanted to make sure we had qualified before Wednesday's game so we can focus on our first league match. We took our goals well and deserved to win."

Craigmark boss Ian Patterson said: "I felt the two sending-offs were harsh, especially the first as there wasn't much in the challenge. But Girvan were the better side and deserved to win. We could still qualify if we win on Wednesday."

The Seasiders began strongly as they took the game to their opponents and made the breakthrough in 12 minutes. The ballot broke to Robert Patterson on the 18-yard line and he slipped a through ball to Jack McDowall to shoot home from 12 yards.

There was another great opportunity five minutes later when a Patterson rocket from 25 yards was saved well by visiting goalie Matthew McClymont.

Then six minutes later Marc Cameron shot across the face of goal.

Craigmark forged a good opportunity in 26 minutes when Marc Dyer sent a header glancing narrowly wide of target.

The lead was doubled five minutes later when McDowall threaded a pass through to Patterson to crash the ball home.

The visitors kept plugging away and in 40 minutes Jordan Barr sent an effort just over the bar.

At the other end four minutes later a McDowall volley was well saved by McClymont.

Four minutes after the break, Girvan were coasting at 3-0 when Stephen O'Donnell swung over a cross to Patterson and his overhead kick to Stephen Auld who powered home a header from close range.

In 65 minutes Paul Cameron fired a shot which took a deflection on its way into the net.

Five minutes later Craigmark were reduced to 10 men when Willie Hall was given a straight red card for a rash tackle.

Girvan came close in 78 minutes when Michael Reilly made a great run into the box before being tackled by Graeme Whitaker.

In 88 minutes Girvan were awarded a penalty when Auld was upended inside the box by Dylan Thirtle. Whitaker was then sent off for foul and abusive language after contesting the decision and Marc Cameron netted from the spot to round off a comfortable win.
