FORTRESS Fullarton stood firm as magnificent Marr Rugby Club secured up their first BT Premiership victory of the season on Saturday.

And head coach Craig Redpath was full of praise for his side as they came from behind to edge out former champions Heriot's 24-22.

It was the first ever Premiership game at Fullarton for Marr, who won BT National League One in style at Braidholm in April.

The Troon side are now, remarkably, unbeaten at their Fullarton ground in two-and-a-half years.

Redpath said: "There was a great crowd and atmosphere at the game - the fans turned out in good numbers to see us. It was really a great team effort and I wouldn't like to single out any one player for praise. We want to keep our home unbeaten record going. Someone told me it's now 30 months since we last lost at home. I know that will go but we want to preserve it as long as possible."

Of the game he said: "Heriot's were fourth last season and are top five material so it was really good to beat them.

"Our game plan was to take them on and it worked. Colin Sturgeon did well with the late score."

Added the head coach: "Our aim this season has always been to stay in the league and hopefully we can do that."

Saturday sees the Troon side head into the borders rugby to face Hawick.

But Redpath is unfazed by the challenge and is looking forward to his side's latest challenge and said: "The aim is to go there and see if we can win the game. We are enjoying the Premiership - everyone wants to play at the top level against the best sides."
