Scottish Junior Cup First Round

NEWMAINS 2

ANNBANK UNITED 4

ANNBANK moved into the second round but they were given a fright in the last 10 minutes when the Lanarkshire hosts came right back into the match.

Bankies got off to the perfect start when McLean Simpson ran on to a long clearance from Marc Fisher and netted.

Fisher made two fine saves to keep Annbank in the lead.

Annbank added a second goal in 32 minutes, Andy Stevenson played in Jamie Martin, who shot across the keeper and into the far corner.

It was 3-0 in 70 minutes when Sean Millarvie set up Lee Sloan and he drove the ball high into the roof of the net.

That seemed to be that, however some slack defensive play allowed Newmains to pull two goals back and set up a nervy finish.

Substitute Ryan Connolly made the victory secure two minutes into stoppage time, running through to slip the ball beyond the keeper.

ANNBANK: Fisher, T. Sloan, Kirkwood, Baird, Sherrie, Martin, L. Sloan, Sisi, Simpson, Stevenson, Millarvie. Subs: Dunn, Connolly, Hainey, Granger, George.
