Scottish Junior Cup Third Round

TROON 0

YOKER 2

SHOCK troops Yoker sent higher league hosts Troon crashing out of the national competition at Portland Park on Saturday.

The visitors deserved their win in front of a large crowd as they moved into the fourth round of the Scottish Cup.

Playing with the wind behind them in the first half it was expected that Yoker would dominate the game, but this was not the case as Troon had the bulk of the play, but were careless with their finishing.

Morgan Brown had a chance to put Troon ahead but blazed the ball over the bar. Then Adam Forsyth took advantage of a pass back but squandered the chance.

Scott McLean was the next to have an opportunity but his curled shot flew just wide.

The best chance of the half fell to Yoker in 40 minutes but Ryan Hynes shot wildly past the post.

With the wind behind them it was expected that Troon would take charge, but with their defenders and midfield players overshooting their forwards, they produced little threat in front of goal.

In 48 minutes the impressive Hynes had a chance for Yoker but shot wide of target.

Nine minutes later Steven McCreadie saw his shot from 20 yards fly over the crossbar as Troon tried to make the breakthrough.

Home striker Scott McLean had a shot well saved by Liam Campbell in 58 minutes.

Troon then made a double substitution, replacing Dean Keenan with Scott Chatham and Adam Forsyth with Dean Fulton.

However Yoker took the lead in 65 minutes when a breakaway saw goalkeeper Jamie McGowan dash from his goal but he was beaten to the ball and Steven Young, who rounded the keeper and squared the ball to Greg Maitland who netted.

Troon's reply was instant and Dale Shirkie played in Dean Fulton but his shot flew over the bar. From the goal kick, Young released Hynes and he strode forward and netted with a low drive which gave McGowan no chance.

All in all a bad day for Troon who were outmuscled by a Yoker side who gave acting manager Graeme George a winning start.

TROON: McGowan; Clark, Brown, Chisholm, Collins, Keenan, Murphy, McCreadie, Forsyth, Shirkie, McLean. Subs: Chatham, Curragh, Fulton, Lamont, Donaldson.
