AILEEN Fisher of Ayr Roads/Harry Fairbairn Cycling Club received an unexpected prize through the post last week, when she was awarded with the First Ladies Vets prize from the Super Quaich Series cyclocross run over Rozelle Course a week ago.

Aileen was also the first Ayrshire lady to finish in the event.

She was again in the limelight when she competed in the Scottish Cyclo Cross Lapierre Series promoted by East Kilbride Road Club at Strathclyde Park on Sunday, where she took third podium place in her category against a strong field.

Her winter miles and indoor turbo sessions are paying dividends and with a new time trial bike awaiting delivery she is hoping to improve her personal best times in the new season.

In the men’s events the Roads suffered mishaps with Fraser Tait unshipping his chain and young senior Iain Fisher ending up with an expensive rear dérailleur replacement. Fraser still finished 15th in his category with fellow clubman Alex McAllister just behind.

Meanwhile with the arrival of good weather on Sunday the club outing took in the eastern bye ways of Ayrshire when a good bunch of clubmen clocked a fifty mike circuit via Mauchline, Sorn and Catrine before the customary cafe halt at Mauchline. The midweek group faired better with a sixty mile run via Tormitchell and the Assel Valley, returning via the Byne Hill, Girvan and the Kilkerran middle road.

The Roads club calendar for the 2018 season will feature a return of the A to B ride which was dropped last year. This year it will be from Ayr to Ballahulish and return. The highly successful Ayrshire Alps all-day ride is also included, together with a full calendar of time trials and sportives.
