A GIFTED Prestwick tennis prodigy is heading for the hallowed turf of the All England Club next month, after clocking up some fine performances at county level.

Mark Young has been enjoying a phenomenal run in the Road To Wimbledon competition which features starlets from across the country vying to grace the same courts occupied this week by Roger Federer, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic et al.

The Prestwick Academy pupil won through the Prestwick Tennis & Fitness club stage of Road to Wimbledon where he came up against some strong opposition, winning on a tie break set 10-3 against Ewan Henderson.

This allowed him to qualify for the South of Scotland County Finals, where again he won through against some strong opposition winning the final against Callum Semple Kilmarnock 6-3, 6-0.

Wining the county stage allows Mark to represent the South of Scotland at the Road to Wimbledon National Finals, which are being staged at Wimbledon from Sunday, August 12 until Saturday, August 18.

And it will provide a fantastic experience on and off court, including tours of the grounds/Museum, a Wimbledon player pack with Wimbledon merchandise. And there will be an opportunity for him to attend a clinic with Tim Henman and hone his skills.

A Prestwick Tennis Centre spokeswoman said: "We are so proud of Mark and wish him good luck in the next round. He has trained at Prestwick since he was four."
