A NOVEL sporting fundraiser staged by an Ayr United superfan on Saturday has been voted a huge success and should help manager Ian McCall bring in new players.

Supporter Gavin Craig organised aFootgolf challenge at Roodlea Family Golf Centre in Coylton to help raise money to strengthen the squad.

Footgolf involves players kicking a football into a cup in as few shots as possible. It combines the two sports but is more closely related to golf.

Some 55 United fans of all ages turned out for the event which helped raise £1000 for the manager's transfer kitty as he add to his squad during the January window.

Gavin said: "Thanks to everyone who turned out and supported the event - we reached our target which will hopefully help bring new players in."

The main prizewinners were, as follows: first - Martin McCurdy - trophy and four ball for Roodlea; 2nd - Jordon Boyd - two tickets for Ayr v Cowdenbeath; third - Paul Dougall - two ball For Roodlea.
