MORE than 200 teams from across the UK and Ireland will descend on Ayr for a landmark football event this coming Bank Holiday weekend.

The 40th Ayr International Youth Football Tournament will take place from Friday until Monday at Rozelle and Dam Park Stadium.

Friday sees a Fun Fours event and 13s, 14s, 15s and 17s in action and on Saturday the 11-a-side group matches, 11-a-Side Development and seven-a-side festival matches are being staged at Rozelle. For the first time this year, girls competitions are being organised, with Age 11s and 13s participating.

Sunday will see Scotland Trophy and Scotland Salver finals being played at Rozelle while on Monday, the showpiece Scotland Cup finals are being staged at Dam Park.

This year sees a sizeable contingent of local sides taking part in recognition of the fact this is the 40th staging of the competition.

Organiser Duncan McIntyre: "We look forward to the event and hopefully the weather will be kind to us. There are plenty of parking spaces in Rozelle."
