HISTORY was made by a Prestwick youth football team in a major national event.

Prestwick CFC 2002 became the first side from the Central Ayrshire Youth League to reach the last 16 of the Scottish Cup.

Now on Saturday, ko 1pm, they face St Andrew's Boys Club from Greenock with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Coach Stuart McColm said: "It really is a great achievement for us to go this far in the competition and we have a great bunch of boys in the squad.

"We haven't won any major events as a team but the group has been together for a few years, so it really would make my season if we could get into the quarter-finals, which would be something to look forward to.

"The players are all quite local - they are mainly from the Prestwick and Troon areas and we also have one from Auchinleck. They work hard on their game and it's been a good season. We have had a great run in the Scottish Cup and hopefully it will continue this weekend.

"Let's hope people will cheer us on in good numbers."
