GIRVAN 1

PETERSHILL 0

by Matt Speirs

GIRVAN came out on top in this promotion clash thanks to some superb goal-keeping by Scott Johnston and a fine goal in the first half.

Petershill were quick out the blocks and in four minutes a corner-kick by Chris Wilson was driven over the bar by Paul Murphy.

Six minutes later a cross by Jack McDowall found Robert Paterson but he shot over the bar.

Girvan opened the scoring in 17 minutes when a long clearance down the middle found Robert Paterson and he ran on and shot low into the net.

It was almost 2-0 in 28 minutes by Michael Reilly saw his shot cleared off the line.

Two minutes from half-time Johnston kept Girvan in front when he turned a shot by Chris Hall away to safety.

It was all Petershill early in the second half and a shot by Kevin Nicol in 55 minutes was diverted for a corner.

Two minutes later Scott Johnston blocked a shot from Chris Hall and the ball was scrambled clear.

Petershill came close to snatching the equaliser in 70 minutes but Wilson's shot was just too high.

After this Petershill ran out of ideas and Girvan were able to see out time.
