AYR returned to winning in the Western Union Premier Division with a well timed run chase against Poloc at Cambusdoon on Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, posting a challenging total of 267-7 with useful contributions from South African professional Snyman (89), Geldenhuys (41), Shah (31), Young (30) and Ahmad (30 no). Scott McElnea was pick of the Ayr bowlers taking 3-46.

The Ayr openers Smith and Papps made a solid start putting on 99 for the first wicket, when Smith fell for 51.

Skipper Andi McElnea then joined Papps and they continued to push on towards the target until Papps was next out falling five short of another century with the total on 191 and only nine overs remaining, leaving Poloc in the ascendancy.

But a productive 45 over by McElnea and Khan when they put on 20 runs swung the balance back towards Ayr, only for both to depart in quick succession for 61 and 26 respectively, followed by Scott McElnea after a quick cameo, leaving Mark Morrison and Matthew McClymont at the crease with only six required off the last over, McClymont easing the tension for the home supporters, driving the first ball for four and taking a single of the second to tie the scores before Morrison cut the next ball to the cover boundary to secure the victory.

On Wednesday night, the McCulloch Cup match at Irvine was abandoned after nine overs following the collision on the boundary of two of the Irvine players attempting a catch off a straight drive from Michael Papps which went for six. Sadly, both were taken to hospital by ambulance, causing the abandonment of the game.

The Cambusdoon XI travelled to Shawholm on Saturday and fell to a seven-wicket defeat. The match was reduced to 45 overs due to rain with the Cambusdoon men batting first and struggled to 134 all out, Richie Borland top scoring with 22.

In reply Shawholm were never in any real danger as they reached their target with almost 15 overs to spare for the loss of only three wickets. Leg spinner Harry Boyd taking all the wickets for 47 runs

The Development XI got their Western Union Cup campaign back on track with a comfortable victory at home to Torrance House. The visitors batted first, scoring 125-4 in their 20 overs, a total they chased down in 16 overs, Callum Henderson top-scoring with 63.

Ayr are away to Greenock on Saturday in League duty, at home in the Scottish Cup to Meigle, who caused an upset in the previous round, beating Uddingston on Sunday and on Thursday at home to Clydesdale in the Rowan Cup. The Cambusdoon XI are at home to Langloan on Saturday and the Development XI face Ferguslie in the Evening League on Tuesday.

Controversial umpiring decisions cost Prestwick as they lost their unbeaten record in another Premier Division game at home to Uddingston.

The visitors batted first and hit 227 for seven, with Ross Patterson taking 3-48 and Sachin Chaudhary 2-67.

Prestwick got off to a good start, with skipper Shazad Rafiq hitting 98 and Fraser Madonald 23, while Chaudhary hit 40. However they had a middle order collapse and finished on 222 all out, giving Uddingston a narrow five-run victory.

Rafiq said: "It was a very close game and we batted well. But a couple of decisions were questionable - the lbw of Johnny Stafford and run out of Gavin Pitt."

Prestwick on Saturday are away to Poloc.
