GIRVAN 1

GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 3

STRUGGLING Girvan had former caretaker Lawrie Dinwoodie back in charge following the midweek sacking of Scott Clelland.

And they put up a spirited display against the champions which suggests they may still stand a chance of beating the drop.

In two minutes there was a good move down the right for the hosts which saw Craig Reid deliver a cross to Paul Cameron, who blasted over the top.

Then two minutes later Reid fired over another cross from the right, which was headed over the bar by Darren Mitchell.

In five minutes Glens went close with a shot from 20 yards which glanced just wide.

Six minutes D Mitchell played a knock down into plenty of space but Martin Reilly rushed his shot and it went wide

However in 24 minutes Glens went ahead when their winger fired a low and hard shot through a crowd of players and former Ayr United man Ryan Borris turned it into the net at the back post.

Scott Johnston did well seven minutes later to turn a shot from 15 yards over the bar.

It was all-square in 39 minutes when Girvan were awarded a penalty after Reilly was adjudged to have fouled inside the box and Paul Cameron made no mistake with the spot kick.

Back came Glens and in 61 minutes they restored their lead when a ball across the box from the right found former Troon man Dale Moore unmarked and he scored from 12 yards

Twelve minutes later Girvan were reduced to 10 men when Paul Cameron was sent off for an alleged two-footed tackle when he was on his back side trying to win the ball back.

Five minutes from time, Girvan thought they had equalised when a Scott Dinwoodie free kick found Stevie O’Donnell at the back post but the visiting goalie somehow managed to turn it round post for a corner.

Then three minutes from time with Girvan pushing for the equaliser they where caught on the break when Joe Andrew made the game safe, with his shot finding the net.
