DEJECTED Girvan FC boss Lawrie Dinwoodie says a big improvement is needed from his side if they want to stay in the Premier Division next season.

This came after the Seasiders suffered their heaviest league defeat of the season.

They went down 5-0 at home to title-chasing Pollok and caretaker boss Dinwoodie, who came in last month following the sacking of Scott Clelland, believes his side are capable of much better.

They remain in third bottom spot, a point ahead of Scottish Junior Cup semi-finalists Hurlford United and Arthurlie.

However Girvan face a tough task as they aim to avoid finishing in the bottom two, which would pull them into a playoff with fifth six in the First Division for a slot in the revamped Premier Division under reconstruction.

Dinwoodie said: "Pollok are a decent team and are doing well, but that was simply not good enough from us. We didn't play well. I think we had one opportunity throughout the whole game and that's not good. I know we can do better and we will have to improve if we want to keep playing at the top level."

However the stand-in boss is not underestimating the challenge facing his side. They play challengers Auchinleck Talbot, Beith and Kirkintilloch Rob Roy all twice, as well as a Cumnock side, managed by former Girvan boss Peter Leonard and Hurlford United.

He said: "We have really difficult games coming up against all the top teams in the league but we will just have to roll up our sleeves, work hard and really give it our best shot. That's all we can do."
