A TEAM from Prestwick Academy made it to the final stages of a national football tournament.
The Coca Cola soccer 7s final took place at Hearts" Tynecastle Stadium with Prestwick boys taking on teams from Renfrew, Dalkeith and Ellon in their group.
They had been part of an initial entry of more than 7,500 that included 12 Ayrshire teams who kicked off at Whitletts Activity Centre in February.
Successfully getting through, Prestwick"s next stop was Kilmarnock Powerleague on March 14 where they beat teams from Stewarton to Stranraer to progress further.
Excitement was mounting in and around the school as the team was one of only eight that got through the semi-finals at Airdrie in April that formed the final two groups in the grand final.
Their results were mixed at Tynecastle last Sunday when they lost narrowly to Trinity High and were beaten by St David"s High before managing a draw against Ellon Academy.
Former Hearts internationalist, Gary Mackay, has been involved in the tournament since it began in 2001 and praised all the players that took part.
He said: 'The Coca-Cola 7"s is a great tournament. I have been involved for a number of seasons now and it just continues to get bigger and better.
'It is a pleasure to help the future of the Scottish game by passing on advice and coaching young players to help improve their ability.'
