The well-loved actress has turned into Fairy Beansprout for her leading role in Jack and the Beanstalk - due to storm the historic theatre in December.

The colourful cast were strutting around in their magnificent costumes on Friday – getting ready for the Christmas countdown.

Jane who was wearing glitter and waving around a ‘magical leek’ as a wand said she was thrilled to be at the cosy seaside venue.

She said: “I’ll be sparkling with glitter for weeks. I am really excited about the panto as I’ve always wanted to perform at the Gaiety. I have done Jack and the Beanstalk before and I know Fraser Boyle (Dame Trott). I have heard great things about the cast.

“It is a nice small venue so the audience really feel part of the show.” Seasoned Ayr panto favourite Fraser – who is stepping out as Jack’s mum– fluttered enormous eyelashes in anticipation of being in the limelight again.

He said: “I am really looking forward to this – I just love the Gaiety. I have done a lot of panto but there is something about the Gaiety – it is so intimate. I can see people’s faces in the back of the stalls and look them in the eye.

“The people in Ayrshire are really up for it. I think they have a real appreciation as the theatre was closed for three years.

“It is going to be a really good one.” The full cast includes Michael Courtney as Fleshcreep, James Bustar as Simple Simon, Colin Ferguson as The Regal King, Liam Webster as Jack and Abbie Watson as Princess Jill.
