THIS year’s 12th annual beach clean in Troon saw less rubbish than the previous years.
The Rotary Club of Troon, along with Friends of Troon Beaches and volunteers were ‘delighted’ as there was ‘little’ to pick up compared to the previous 11 years, on Saturday, April 7.
This annual ‘Spring Clean’, sees the Rotary Clubs of Troon, Prestwick, Girvan, Ayr and Alloway coordinate the beach clean aspect of their Keep Scotland Beautiful campaign.
The 19 miles of beaches that were cleaned this year include Girvan, Dipple, Turnberry, north Croy Bay, Dunure to Heads of Ayr, Heads of Ayr to River Doon, River Doon to Blackburn Car Park, Newton to Bentfield Point, Bentfield Point to Pow Burn, and Pow Burn to Barassie.
A spokesperson for the Rotary Club of Troon, said: “There was little to pick up this year compared to the previous 11 years when we worked with local Rotary clubs to clean the Ayrshire coastline.
"14 bags of rubbish were collected. Again this year, no plastic carrier bags and only a few plastic bottles were collected.
“We were delighted to have a Kilmarnock Rotary member join us along with neighbours, South Ayrshire suppliers and volunteers.
“We are grateful to the Friends of Troon Beaches and intend to continue to support them in their great work - we were so lucky with the weather."
