TWO cycling adventurers on a worldwide trip are set to swap the wilds of Cambodia for a stop off on Troon’s sea front.

Dawn Logan, 31, and Claire Gover, 37,will have given up 14 months of their time to cycle across the globe to raise money for Pencils of Promise, whose aim to ensure every child across the globe is given a basic education.

Going by the name ‘Pedalling for Promise’, the duo has travelled through Europe, Asia, South East Asia and are now cycling their way through the USA before heading back home to the UK – having pedalled across 25 countries in three continents, they will have cycled a total of almost 15,000 miles.

Speaking to the Troon Times from Upstate New York, Dawn, explained: “Education has given us both opportunities we couldn’t have dreamed of as children. We have taken on an enormous personal challenge, cycling around the world, to try and change the lives of many more children through the gift of education.

“I started from my family farm in Stirling and picked Claire up on the way down in the south of England and we cycled through Europe, all the way to Azerbaijan.

“There have been ups and downs – South East Asia was hard because we weren’t going through the tourist areas, we were using the back roads.”

Dawn and Claire have almost reached their target of £35,000, with £26,800 already being raised.

Dawn added: “We have around five weeks left which is bitter sweet – it is sad that the adventure will be over.

“We will be cycling to New York City then flying to Dublin, to then cycle to Belfast and get the ferry over to Stranraer. From there we will cycle up to Troon for a stop at my friend’s hairdressers, Lesley McDonald Hair and Beauty, who has been fundraising for us during our journey. She will be donating £1.50 for everyday that we have cycled.”
