TWO cycling adventurers have almost completed their worldwide trip after swapping the wilds of Cambodia for a stop off in Troon.

Dawn Logan, 31, and Claire Gover, 37, gave up 14 months of their time to cycle across the globe to raise money for Pencils of Promise, whose aim is to ensure every child across the globe is given a basic education.

Going by the name ‘Pedalling for Promise’, the duo has travelled through Europe, Asia, South East Asia and the USA before heading back home to the UK through Ireland and up to Troon.

Having pedalled across 25 countries in three continents, they will have cycled a total of almost 15,000 miles and on Tuesday, August 21, Dawn and Claire stopped off at their friend’s hairdressers, Lesley McDonald Hair and Beauty, who has been fundraising throughout their journey - she donated £1.50 for every day that they have cycled.

Previously speaking to the Troon Times, Dawn explained that the journey has been bitter sweet.

She said: “There have been ups and downs – South East Asia was hard because we weren’t going through the tourist areas, we were using the back roads.

“We have [a couple of weeks] left which is bitter sweet – it is sad that the adventure will be over. From [Stranraer] we cycled up to Troon for a stop at my friend’s hairdressers, Lesley McDonald Hair and Beauty, who has been fundraising for us during our journey.”

The pair have managed to break their £35,000 target as we went to press - if you would like to donate or follow their journey, you can visit their website www.pedallingforpromise.com or visit their Facebook page www.facebook.com/pedallingforpromise/
