A FASCINATING work of art which is Troon’s very own version of the Great Scottish Tapestry was unveiled at a special event earlier this month.

The Great Troon Wall Hanging is now on view for everyone to see permanently in St Ninian’s Episcopal Church after four years of work from people across the community came to fruition.

It involved great dedication from needle workers, administrators and facilitators.

Designer Elizabeth “Tizzy” Cottingham is delighted with how the project has turned out. She said: “The main theme is the Tree of Life, the seasons, nature and the community.

"We have the harbour, the Lifeboat and a rowing boat.

“I am delighted with the finished product. It was complete in June when Sally Magnusson dedicated it but this event is more for the needle workers."

St Ninian’s Church sits at the centre of the design at the foot of the Tree of Life. Look out for the Pow Burn swans, a variety of dogs, the harbour, Troon Lifeboat, the coastal rowing boat, kite surfers, Arran, Holy Isle and Lady Isle. Pupils from the six feeder primary schools made the leaves on the tree.
