Lindy’s Tea Room in Hansel has been given a makeover thanks to a host of volunteers.

The tea room was given a new look with the exterior building being pressure washed, sanded down and painted.

Hansel is a leading social care provider, offering a range of services to people living with learning difficulties including young people living within the autistic spectrum.

Various volunteers from Hansel customers and staff, and employees from the Royal Bank of Scotland combined a total of 300 hours work to get the tea room looking great.

Hansel also received terrific community support from local businesses to enable the project to go ahead, none less than the £500 donated towards the paint and necessary safety equipment cost from Tower Tools.

Gerry Lindsay, Managing Director, Hansel said: “It was a fantastic community effort and we are really indebted to the Royal Bank of Scotland and the local businesses for their support.

“When we were first approached by the bank, we didn’t envisage that the project would end up on this scale as Lindy’s Tea Room is a big building.

“We’re constantly facing financial challenges and we simply wouldn’t have been able to find the funding for a contractor to undertake this work so it’s a real boost. The enthusiasm of the team was terrific.

Jim McIntyre, West of Scotland Regional Director, the Royal Bank of Scotland, said: “Hansel makes a positive and powerful difference to the lives and families of some of the most vulnerable people living in the West of Scotland.

“Royal Bank of Scotland was delighted to be given the opportunity to offer more than just financial support to the charity but to offer our time and effort and see at first hand the difference our input will make.

“We hope that the refurbished tea room enhances the valuable service Hansel provides and again everyone at Royal Bank of Scotland is grateful for being given the opportunity to volunteer on this project.”
