AGE Concern Girvan was nominated in the South Ayrshire Sports Awards 2018 for their Walk & Talk project.
The group gathers to organise daytrips at least once a month to keep members of the community fit, active and socialising.
Group organiser David Gilmartin said: “It was a great night and very well organised! If I could take this opportunity to thank David Phee and Steve Noble who work for SAC Sport & Leisure also to Carrick Futures for (the initial set up) funding allowing us to purchase Hi Vis vests and Pedometers, also to subsidise (future) Day Trips for the Walkers.
“Most importantly, to thank the Walkers & Talkers, who, have made it all possible!”
The awards were held on October 30 at Ayr Town Hall where both junior and senior sporting achievements were celebrated.
The Walk & Talk group raises money for Age Concern Girvan which provides the community’s elderly with a three course lunch for £5 in attempts to tackle social isolation, as well as giving advice to clients and families on health, benefits and safety.
The group is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 10am to 1.30pm at 2 Duff Street in Girvan.
