A man who injured his partner by throwing a prawn cocktail glass at her has been ordered to pay back compensation.

Robert Maxwell who now lives in Glasgow told Ayr Sheriff Court last week that an argument got out of hand which led to the beverage being launched at his now ex-partner at their home in Ayr.

Depute Fiscal Jennifer Harkins told the court: "A glass was thrown against the wall but it struck the complainant.

"She was left needing four stitches to her elbow and it will leave a small scar."

Maxwell represented himself in court on Tuesday, November 13. He said: "It was an argument that shouldn't have happened.

"I had a prawn cocktail in my hand and threw it. I had no intention of hitting anybody."

Sheriff Mhari MacTaggart asked Maxwell what his current circumstances were and his ability to pay compensation to the victim.

Maxwell said that he is currently in between jobs but hopes to obtain an HGV license and resume work once this issue is put behind him.

Sheriff MacTaggart said: "I am going to deal with this through a financial penalty and a compensation order of £200."

Maxwell's penalty was £100 which was reduced from £150 for pleading guilty. Maxwell told Sheriff MacTaggart this would be paid immediately along with the compensation ordered.
