SIX people have been arrested after £4,000 worth of drugs were seized in South Ayrshire.

Searches were carried out on a motor vehicle on Friday January 11 at 9am after two men were seeing acting suspiciously.

Officers from the Divisional Alcohol and Violence reduction unit were patrolling the Viewfield Road area of Ayr when the observed the suspicious activity.

Officers searched the men and the motor vehicle and subsequently executed warrants at several properties across Ayrshire.

As a result of the searches, a quantity of Class a drugs were recovered that had an estimated street worth of £4,000.

Four men, aged 50, 51, 53 and 72, as well as two women aged 34 and 35, were arrested and charged in connection with drugs offences.

The seven individuals are due before Ayr Sheriff Court on Monday 14 January 2019 and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Sergeant Raymond Ferguson, of the Divisional Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit explained: “We are committed to tackling drugs misuse and drug dealing and will continue to use all our resources to target offenders.

“I would ask that our local communities continue to work with us and get in touch with any information or concerns that they have in relation to drugs activity in their area".
