LIBRARIES in South Ayrshire have secured more than £20,000 of funding towards supporting vulnerable children and their families.
The announcement was made last week that two library projects will benefit from this year’s Public Library Improvement Fund (PLIF).
The Creating Space project which aims to create a flexible and welcoming library space for children with additional needs has secured £16,404.
An additional £3,732 has been committed to Bookworms – libraries as green champions, which will establish two groups who will use outdoor spaces at Carnegie and Troon libraries to contribute to biodiversity and creativity.
The fund plays a key role in helping library services achieve the vision set out by the national public library.Projects address a wide range of issues such as literacy, digital training and social isolation.
Culture Secretary Fiona Hyslop said:“I congratulate all the successful applicants to this year’s Public Library Improvement Fund.
“The funding of over £200,000 announced today will help libraries across Scotland build on the excellent service they already provide and become welcoming spaces to reduce social isolation.”
